Passion Play

Student Learning Expectation #1: A faith filled person who:
Demonstrates knowledge of Catholic faith, traditions, and doctrines.

The Passion Play is an 8th grade tradition that spans more than thirty years. The Passion Play experience engages the students and allows them to walk with Jesus and make the Passion more meaningful to them. As part of this process the students will be required to keep a journal in which they write weekly reflections.  The focus of the journal will not be so much an account of what happened that day but more of how the student was moved/felt about what was going on from his/her character’s perspective. We take the Passion Play seriously and feel it is a valuable part of our curriculum. The journal will be graded and students will receive points in math, science, and religion.

Students are required to attend all scheduled practices & performances. The two formal performances are on:

1. Sunday March 16  @ 5:30 (Palm Sunday)
2. Friday March 21st @11:00  (Good Friday)

Both performances are in the church.

If a student misses one of the performances he/she will be asked to write a two page essay answering the following questions.

1. During your preparation for the Passion Play, what did you learn about yourself as a person and member of the class? What did you learn about the role you played?

2. Which of your lines had the most meaning for you? Give at least three examples. What made these lines so meaningful?

3. What was the experience like while presenting the passion to the Parish on Palm Sunday or to the school on Good Friday? If you didn’t participate in either performance what was it like for you during the dress rehearsal?

4. How did your Passion Play experience help you grow in your own spiritual life?
